PITIC Partnerships

Recognizing the significane of strategic partnering and relationship building, the Pacific Islands Trade & Investment Commission (PITIC) has undertaken a collaborative approach to trade by developing and fostering linkages between the private sectors of the Pacific Islands and New Zealand.

Through various meetings, conferences and networking events the Pacific Islands Trade and Investment Commission has been able to develop and maintain key contacts for future business opportunities. Given PITIC’s resource constraints, collaborating with other organisations with similar goals also proved to be an effective way of ensuring that larger projects could be implemented through the pooling of resources.

Food & Agriculture Organisation

The Food & Agriculture Organisation was founded in 1945 as one of the United Nations’ organisation to defeat hunger around the world. Serving both developed and developing countries, the FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. It is also a source of knowledge and information as it helps developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all.

A delegation of FAO representatives who were in NZ attended the 9th roundtable Meeting on WTO agreement provisions in July 2006 and were hosted in Auckland by PITIC NZ. The Commission successfully organised Agricultural and Fisheries field visits followed by a luncheon with the Pacific Island Importers Roundtable providing a useful networking opportunity for members and delegates.
